Purpose of the Blog

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has asked us to be prepared for disasters and other things that could happen. The goal is for every member of the church to have a 90 day supply of food and a two week supply of water. In the Murrieta, California Stake our leadership has asked all the families in our stake to have a 30 day supply of food by July 2012. After we have the 90 day supply of food we are asked to have long term storage. We are also encouraged to have a  72 hour emergency kit.

  • 72 hour kit for emergencies like earthquakes, fire, flooding, electricity going out like it did in San Diego last year.
  • 2 weeks of water, 30 day supply of food. If there is an emergency it takes the red cross about 7-10 days to actually get help to an area that makes an impact.
  • 90 days supply of food, medicine, clothing, etc in case of a longer problem like a pandemic which is talked about on the provident living website.
  • Longer storage is for things like job loss and other economic problems. Maybe drought, food shortages, who knows what.

As I have been called to be our ward Relief Society food storage/preparedness specialist I thought I would try this blog to see if it would help the members with ideas for their own food storage and preparedness.

If you are like you me you receive a lot of ideas and information on food storage and preparedness for emergencies and disasters. When I see them I think they are a great idea but when I want to refer to the information or company I have a hard time remember where or when I saw the idea. Hopefully this website will become a reference to go to when you have ideas or even want to share ideas. It is a work in progress so please send ideas this way

If you have ideas You want to share, email me at caloakspreparedness@gmail.com or post them here.
